About the artist

Jill Hudson

BA (HONS) Fine Art

A graduate of Falmouth College of Arts, I live and work in Cornwall.

As an artist I am interested in depicting the beauty of the inconsequential moment

– a shaft of light across the floor, a shadow through the trees in the evening.

I want to capture the essence of an image which otherwise might be overlooked.

My art is about the landscape of life in all its forms – it’s fleetingness, it’s poetry, it’s loneliness, and it’s reality.

Qualifications and experience

Art Foundation – Wirral Metropolitan College    1996 – 97

BA (HONS) Fine Art, Falmouth College of Arts     1998 – 2001

 Additional training

Jan 2000 – April 2000   study at the Accademia di Belli Arti Venice

A little bit about myself…

Born and educated in Merseyside, I had never been abroad before, when at the age of twenty I packed and headed to Uganda for eight months where I worked for a voluntary organisation,  I taught English and Chemistry in a rural school. With no electricity or running water, and with only a charcoal stove to cook on, I learnt a great many things, and was able to experience a very different style of life. I have nurtured a love of travelling ever since.

I returned to England with a rucksack and went on to study Fine Art at Falmouth College of Arts, Cornwall. During my degree I studied for three months at the Accademia di Belli Arti, Venice.

Since then, I have been further afield to travel in Peru and Mexico,  taking my paints with me, I then went on in 2005 to work as Expedition Artist with Raleigh International in Chile. There, I was able to capture the magic of the landscape and people, in paint and sketches, I also worked with the expedition venturers alongside the different communities where they were based, to explore with them a variety of artforms and local traditional crafts.

On leaving the project I trekked to glaciers in southern Chile, and also spent time on Easter Island.

I am lucky enough to sail in Cornwall and sometimes crew on traditional Pilot Cutters, many of my paintings come from these experiences, and my aim is to express the elegance of these boats and the lure of the sea.

I continue to try to capture an unconventional beauty within my work.

At present my work can be seen in

The National Trust  Trelissick Art Gallery, Cornwall

The Fowey River Gallery, Cornwall

    • Hi Sally,
Glad you like the work. At present my gig rowing paintings sell at Sullys Picture Framing on Commercial Road, Penryn Cornwall. I am not sure where you are based. I am going down there on Friday so can confirm what works they have in stock, and the prices. They also hold prints of a small number of the works and I will give you the information on those. If you are not in the vicinity, and are interested, I can look into posting.
      Hope that is helpful
      Kind Regards
      Jill
